Join the Duke Energy Battery Control program and get paid to keep the grid more stable
In South Carolina, the Duke Energy Power Manager and EnergyWise Home Battery Control Programs help to keep the grid stable by allowing homeowners with solar + battery systems to share energy when the grid needs it. And, you get paid to do it.

How It Works
- Regular Use – your home will use energy from your PV and complement it from the battery and/or the grid
- Battery Control Event – A signal will be sent to enrolled batteries at a specific time to temporarily adjust the system’s operating settings (charge, discharge, hold state of charge, return to normal operations, change of mode and store energy) and provide stored electricity back to the grid. You in turn get monthly bill credits for participating
- Blackout – your battery will be used to keep the lights on during power outages

Get Started
To enroll in the program, work with your SolarEdge installer to ensure that your system is installed, has received PTO, and is connected to the SolarEdge Monitoring portal.
Once these steps are complete, enroll in the program using the simple enrollment form below:
FAQs
What can I expect after enrolling?
Duke Energy will confirm your eligibility. You will be notified once your enrollment is accepted, including a test for connectivity. If eligible - You will receive monthly bill credits for continuing to meet program requirements, including internet connectivity and participating in events.
What is a battery control event?
The program allows Duke Energy to use flexible resources, such as your battery, to support the operation of the grid. We will call an event, which lets your device know we are asking to use it at a specific time. This decreases the use of less efficient and more expensive energy sources to support the grid.
During battery control events, your battery will discharge down to 20% of your stored energy for up to 3 hours. Outside of these discharge events, for no more than 48 hours, the program may control your battery in some or all of the following ways in preparation for a discharge event: battery charging, change of battery mode, hold of battery state of charge.
Does the battery control option affect my electric bill?
Participants in the battery control option will receive a monthly bill credit based on the make and model of their battery storage system enrolled in the program. Bills will be calculated based on the consumption and discharge of the home’s meter and the customer’s rider and rate schedule selection. Your rate can be found at the top of your electric bill. More information on rate types is located at duke-energy.com/rates.
How is my monthly incentive calculated?
A monthly bill credit for qualifying customers is calculated based on the total nameplate capacity continuous discharge rate (kW) for eligible batteries enrolled and approved in the program. The total nameplate capacity continuous discharge rate (kW) is multiplied by $6.50 (value is per kW) and is then adjusted by a capability factor, which at this time is 70.9%. The capability factor accounts for various program-wide operational and program constraints, including, but not limited to, reliability of device connection, system losses, and system charge at the time of an event. The monthly bill credit does not change each month and can be found listed in the eligible battery make and model table above.
How will my battery storage system be adjusted?
Duke Energy Progress will send a message through the battery control provider to your battery during an event with information on the specific event start, duration and electricity demand. This will then cause your battery to charge, if necessary, prior to the event to maximize your battery’s availability for discharge back to the grid.
What if I don’t want to participate in an event?
Participants will have the option to opt out of up to four control events per year and remain enrolled in the program. If a participant chooses to opt out of more than four events per year, they may be removed from the program. An opt-out includes non-participation from part or all the event time period and includes those instances where Duke Energy Progress is unable to communicate with the customer’s installed equipment during an event.
When will I receive the bill credit(s)?
Customers will begin receiving bill credits for participation in the program on the next bill cycle following enrollment. The enrollment process may require 30 days for completion, and at this time is likely to include a test for connectivity to the battery. Bill credits are monthly whether an event occurs or not.
Is the program available to residential and nonresidential customers?
Currently, only residential customers with Duke Energy electric service in North Carolina and South Carolina are eligible to participate in the program.
What should I do if I no longer want to participate in the program?
Duke Energy Progress customers can contact EWHBattery@duke-energy.com , Duke Energy Carolinas customers can contact PMBattery@duke-energy.com to be removed from the program. If you decide to withdraw from the program, the monthly bill credit(s) from participation in this program will no longer appear on your bill.
Is there a limit on the number of batteries that I can enroll in the program?
No, there is no cap on the number of batteries you can enroll, however the incentive you qualify for will be limited by the residential Interconnection limit of 20kW.
Can I receive an incentive for multiple batteries?
Yes, if you have multiple batteries that qualify, the total nameplate capacity continuous discharge rate (kW) for all qualifying batteries will be used to calculate your monthly bill credits. Note that the residential Interconnection limit of 20kW applies to all incentive calculations such that, for example, if you are installing two 15kW (eligible) battery systems, your incentive would not reflect 30kW, but would be capped at 20kW per Interconnection limits.
What if I have additional questions about the battery control option?
Duke Energy progress customers send an email to EWHBattery@duke-energy.com. Duke Energy Carolinas programs send an email to PMBattery@duke-energy.com.
