How the Energy Storage Rewards program works

During everyday life

Your solar energy system powers your home as usual with occasional help from the grid and your SolarEdge Home Battery.

When the grid needs help

TEP will notify you if it anticipates needing help. During battery events, you can contribute as much of your battery capacity as you want or even opt out.

After battery events

Your smart energy system will automatically switch back to battery charging mode.

On non-event days

You stay in control of how you use your stored energy.

What is the TEP Energy Storage Rewards program?

The TEP Energy Storage Rewards program is a utility program that compensates customers for sharing energy to the grid when the Tucson electric grid needs it. Customers are paid on a performance basis for the average kilowatt (kW) they share from their energy storage during dispatch events.

Am I eligible to enroll in the Energy Storage Rewards program?

To be eligible to enroll, you must:

  • Be a TEP residential electric customer (with the electric service in your name)
  • Own a qualifying installed SolarEdge Home Battery
  • Consent to let SolarEdge periodically adjust your battery’s charge and discharge schedule
  • Maintain a reliable internet connection between the SolarEdge Monitoring Portal and your SolarEdge Home Battery

How much money can I earn with the Energy Storage Rewards program?

  • Your earning potential depends on your contributions
  • TEP currently offers homeowners $120 in bill credits per kW they contribute (based on their average contribution across all events per season and paid out twice annually)
  • There can be up to 100 battery control events per year across two seasons: Summer and Winter
  • Most events last from 1 to 4 hours

Are there penalties for underperformance/opting out?

No. You decide the amount of energy that you want your battery to share. The more you share, the more you receive. If you opt out, your average kW and performance payment will be reduced.
